Hello mega gurus

Need a little help please.

I have been looking for sleigh bells in my "sounds" (both the Garritan orchestra, my Concert and Marching band, etc.). No such luck.

Can you help me with that?

Thank you in advance

They are there, somewhere in general midi. I know, because I just used them, and I only use GM sounds. (Not smart enough for the fancy stuff!)

Thank you Mike Rosen

Can I use both the Aria Pro and the general midi? Do you happen to remember which bank they were in?

Can’t help you there. Sorry. Once I get away from basic playback, I’m lost.

Hi,

They're called "Jingle Bells" in my 2012, and they're all the way on the left in Score Manager window "Instrument" column--

  Common

    Percussion

     Jingle Bells

HOWEVER, all I can get right now is Basic Orch Perc (and the sound is a dampened triangle), so I'm working on getting the sound right.

It would be great if all the sound names could be standardized.  Sleigh bells usually are not called Jingle Bells, as far as I'm aware.

...And if a standard order could be found.  Some are alphabetical, some are alphabetical within their section

E.g., in Common, Percussion; Cymbals, Finger Cymbals, Tam Tam, and Gong are kind of grouped, but the rest are kind of alphabetized.  Could there be a section name?  "Cymbals" which would include those mentioned?  Then another section, etc.  Or bold type for the first in the section, or something?

Otherwise, I'm really enjoying this software, and will upgrade as soon as I can!

It's not in the GM in 2012.  Any suggestions?

It came with the software, so it must be there somewhere, right?

Are you on Mac or Windows? GM sounds have been part of the Mac OS since the late 1980s—before that, you had to download and install them (as I did on my Mac+ in System 5 or 6). I don’t recall when it came to Windows. In either case, GM doesn’t come with Finale—it’s part of the OS and Finale uses it.

They are.

What would be great would be if the sounds were only listed if they were actually there.

And, if they were actually loud enough to hear.

Thanks, Mike Halloran,

I don't usually get too much into MIDI; hence forking over the bucks for Garritan, JABB3, etc., to forego the tweaking and get right to the "good stuff" (real timbres).  But I may have to.  Usually, Finale is great for this, but there's the occasional snag.

And, as far as sound names, yes, I meant the Finale sounds.  "Sleigh Bells" and "Jingle Bells" might make it easier if they were consolidated.  Might not...

Anyway, thanks for the MIDI info-- took a look at it and will again later.
