I translated Apres un Reve a few years ago and produced digital sheet music with Tuscan, French, English parody and my own English singing translation (as 4 "verses"). Today I saw that I need to re-do a couple of hyphenations, but weird things happened to the Lyrics Window. The sheet music is fine (so far).

At first I didn't see verse 1 in the Lyrics Window (under v. 1). Then suddenly verse 1 appeared and none of the other 3 "verses" are there. How can I get them back into the window? I spent hours inputting text, adding slurs/ties for each verse, and manually added "slurs" to the French and Tuscan texts to show liaisons and elisions. Did the slurs somehow redefine the text or confuse the software?

The lyrics window is sometimes a bit weird, but this is a serious problem! Help, anyone?

Did you add the lyrics in a different layer? Do the verses all show on the score? If so, double-click on a lyric, and that should take you to the correct setting of layer and verse.

Or did Gloria put the other lyrics in Chorus or Section boxes?

Gloria, since this (still) stupid forum doesn't allow posting of Finale files, or sending private messages…

If you like, send me the file at wawoodman at aol dot com, and I'll be happy to have a look.

Hello, people. You are so great for trying to help me. Here's where it stands at the moment. I couldn't get "Type into Score" to work so that I could fix two hyphenations in the French ("verse 2").  So I sat here and kept clicking like a mad woman. I must've clicked 100 times. Suddenly, I got the blue highlight on one syllable and then the other for one word. I was able to fix the two syllables (I didn't dare touch the hyphen, not sure what mayhem would ensue) and also fixed the other word as well.

When I looked in the Lyrics Window, the French was all there in the Verse 2 pane, but now 1, 3, and 4 were missing! This was never a problem before.

Adrian, the 3 boxes I have are Verse, Chorus, and Section. Did you mean Section? "I put all 4 of the verses in verse boxes."* And I clicked many times on the 3 boxes for each pane number, waiting to see if the text might slowly appear in one of them. No luck there.

* Well, well, well. I did *not* put them all in verse boxes. Here's what I found:

My verse #s: ................................ Lyrics Window, Box #/Type:

v. 1 English .................................. Box 1 Verse

v. 2 French ................................... Box 3 Chorus

v.3 English parody ....................... Box 4 Section

v. 4 Tuscan .................................. Box 5 Section

..................................................... Box 2 Verse, Chorus, Section = blank

I did this a year or two ago, and it looks like I wasn't careful in my planning. It's downright chaotic. But even though I went through each Lyrics Window pane number with Verse, Chorus, and Section, nothing appeared. I don't know why text is showing up now. Everything is in Layer 1, so I don't think that's a problem. It seems like clicking on the page like a maniac killing cockroaches triggered something that shook things loose. Could my laser mouse be a problem? Or maybe 2012 is acting up due to age?

Special thanks to Adrian, who happened to say the right thing.

I still don't know why the French showed up earlier in Box 2 but is now going into Box 3.

For now, I'm good. You are both really great for taking time to help.

I'm sure I'll bump into you again. I recognize your name and photo, Mike, from way back!

Cheers,

Gloria

Gloria,

Yes, I should have said "section." I'll edit my message in order not to confuse others.

Glad you found your lyrics.

>I couldn't get "Type into Score" to work <

I never do it any other way. I enjoy the control. Glad you were able to figure it out and get the help you needed to do so.

>Or maybe 2012 is acting up due to age?<

Always a possibility but Lyrics has not made any great strides in later versions.

What is your OS?
