I'm using Finale 2014.5 with Windows 7 Ultimate for 5 years. No problem so far.

There is one file, saved many times, then I printed into PDF, save the file and close the software. Next day the Finale file can not be opened with error "Invalid file type", the size of file is correct. I've tried to (1)open the file with Finale, also (2)renamed the file, (3)rewrite the extension, (4)open with different computer (same software version) but still can't open the file.

I need help from a software wizard! :) Is it possible to open the file?

Thanks in advance

The document may be corrupted.

Do you have a backup copy of that Finale document?

I have the same problem today. I am using Finale 2014.5 with Windows 10. The file was saved two weeks ago on the external hard drive. I can see the backup file (extension .bakx), but I don't know what app I should use to open it. Any help would be appreciated!

Change the backup file from bakx to musx, and it should work. That's how the backup files are accessed.
