Pressing "Fn-Return" on a MBP will work like a dedicated Enter key. Or program your own shortcut key to do it.

Yeah, that works, but then I have to hold the midi keyboard key with my foot while I hit the fn with one hand and return with the other. Will try to figure out how to program that differently (I'd like shift-return). Any suggestions for how best to do this? I know how to remap keys for commands that appear in the menu bar but that doesn't seem to be how to work it for speedy entry...

I use Keyboard Maestro and that would be very easy to assign to shift-return.

The clear key shortcut is another one that you might want to use. Here's what my Keyboard Maestro setup for that looks like. I have the clear key assigned to control-C. It's not Finale specific, it works in all apps.

I know some people do that, but not me. Not spending $36 just so I can invoke Enter on my keyboard. There are solutions for Windows but not Mac, which is pretty shabby. I guess I'll request this as a feature request. This is something I think many of us could use and benefit from, as opposed to some of the new features that come out each year that, frankly, are not critical at all. Thanks.

Another option is to get a USB numeric keypad with and enter key.. Here's one for $15.

I hope MM implements the changes you asked for, but in my opinion, this is a problem that Apple has caused by deleting some keys from keyboards.

I have bettertouchtool and am seeing if I can remap shift-return to be enter globally. That would solve it.

Really? No complaints about the Clear key?

Finale started off on the Mac in the days when the Clear and Enter keys were found on all keyboards. You would think that, at some point in time, there would be an option in Finale Preferences to remap those two keys for those users with the short keyboards. Changing Finale to eliminate those two keys should have been done 25 years ago if it was going to be done at all.

The special keys on the extended keyboard are among the reasons I prefer the Mac.
