I got error message when I tried to open the file made in 2002.

While attempting to access “xxxx” the File Manager reported an error.

Finale - Error occured. ID = -2

Finele Version: 25.5.0.259

mac OS 10.14.5

Please give me any advice to open the files.

ID -2 is a MacOS error stating that you do not have permissions to write to a particular directory or that the directory cannot be found. There are many possible causes.

Copy the file to your desktop. Try to open if from within Finale.

Thank you very much for your advice.

However, still I cannot open those files after I move and copy them to my desktop.

Finale quits if I continuously try to open it.

I checked file's "sharing & authorization" of file info, but there seems to be nothing with problem.

Here's the sharing link of one of the files:

If possible, please try to open it.

How do you explain the .dms suffix which is attached to your file ? This suffix seems to be associated to Amiga or video games, according to the web.

Changing the suffix to .mus or .musx reports a -2 error.

Opening the file in a Text Editor confirms that it is a Finale (Mac) file, but it is filled with thousands of question marks.

This is what the beginning of the file looks like :

Thanks a lot for trying to resolve the problem.

>.dms suffix

I've not attached those kind of suffix at all. First, the file definitely made with Finale and actually it's totally regular finale file on my desk top. When I double-click the file, Finale application starts-up and tries to open that file. So for me, the file suffix seems to be normal.

I put another same file just changed its name with ".musx".

I'm not sure what's happen... I really appreciate if you could try to open it again.

Your .musx file just behaves the same way. Error -2.

If you can open similar files (dating from the same period/version), it could mean that this particular file is corrupted...

P.S. : the change of suffix remains a mystery...
