I'm currently making a textbook with almost five hundred music examples, ranging from 16 to 40 bars in length each. Each exercise needs to start on measure 1, and the only way I can think to do that is to manually input numbers for all twelve thousand or so bars of music. Is there a way to, say, create a new region every x number of measures from measure y to measure z, for example. If not, and I'm stuck doing it manually, is there a way to at least move every region up or down by x number of bars, in case of an error on my part? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I would probably use a different strategy. Finale really isn’t designed for desktop publishing. I would be doing my book in a program designed for it, and inserting the music examples as separate, individual elements. That way, any later edits would make no changes to the music.

The book is just a lot of music with a few text boxes thrown in. It’s not going to be published, just directly printed from a PDF and binded. It’s a supplement to an already published method book, written through works in the public domain. I’m mainly asking about the measure number regions, as it’s the only issue I’ve run in to.

In that case, I don’t think there is any way to accomplish what you’re asking for. And in fact, one of the biggest problems with the measure number regions is the more complicated it is, the more problems seem to crop up.

You may want to take a look at the JW Pattern plugin -> Sequences -> Numbered Measures.

You select a region, apply the plug-in, it always starts from 1. It takes 3 seconds per region.

You can apply that to Score and/or Parts, and if possible, create a dedicated expression category (font, positioning of the number) and let the plug-in use this category.

I use it a lot for drum parts where the drummer has many sections to count, always starting from 1.
