I have raised this problem a number of times before both with the community and Make Music support, but have never been to actually solve the problem.

In the past I think that I may have over complicated the issue bu using examples of numbering.I am sure that the problem should be resolved  by correct use of

the measure tool So here we go again "How do you reset the measure number back to one, when you wish to start a new movement?

Document menu > Edit Measure Number Regions…

Tip:

Before you begin, go to

Preferences - View

and consider the two Measure Number options

- Display Defined Measure Numbers

- Display Actual Measure Numbers

It is definitely a matter of taste, but I personally find it easier to manage Measure Number Regions with Actual Measure Numbers displayed.

NB:

This is a program setting.

It only affects the display in the program (= in dialog boxes).

It does not affect the printed layout.

Hello Mike, firstly many thanks for your prompt reply.I am a bit unsure as to what you actually mean by "hard wired" does this refer to

the Measure Number dialog box? notwithstanding that in region 1 include measure 1 through 9999,this number can be changed to

whatever number you chose, say, for example, the the number of measures in the first movement is 120,then you can simply reset

the through number (9999) TO 120.but the problem now arise as to how you actually reset the number(s) for any subsequent

movements.you can use the Number dialog to add more measures as required.I would imagine that it would be sensible in the

first instance to set a value in the 31 default window. Can we now go back to the original question, i.e. resetting subsequent regions

region 1  1 to 120 display as 1-120.region 2 121 through the number of measures in the second movement, and so on. Alternatively

do you actually have to specify individual movements as regions,1,2,3, etc or could you simply restart back at region one again and

set up the start and end numbers for any future movements?

… How do you reset the measure number back to one, when you wish to start a new movement? …

If I understand you correctly, you are talking about multiple movements in the very same Finale document, right?

You don’t “reset the measure number back to one”.

Instead you add a measure number region for each movement.

In your own words “specify individual movements as regions,1,2,3, etc”.

I am working in Finale Print Music 2014. There doesn't appear to be an Edit Measure Number Regions option. Am I missing something or is this not doable in Print Music?
