Running windows 10 Finale 2014.5

I have two computers.  My office has Finale 2014. Home has 2011

I tried to e-mail some files to my home computer (created in 2014)

When I try to open them at home in 2011 I get a "invalid file type" message.

Any ideas no how to open the files?

Thanks.

Unfortunately you can not export a Finale 2014 document to the Finale 2011 file format.

I suggest that you from the Finale 2014 document export as MusicXML, and then import that MusicXML into a Finale 2011 document.

The title of your post just suggests the opposite : opening 2011 files in 2014.5 is not a problem. But I suppose that it is the other  way around, and then Peter's suggestion via MusicXML is the way to go.

oops yes, I am trying to open a 2014 file into a 2011. However, the xml thing does not seem to work. oddly, the file I download form the e-mail doesn't do anything. I can't open it at all, so I don't know how to export it as MusicXML.

Maybe you are saying I have to export it as xml from the 2014 version before I email it?

Good that you have a solution.

If you do need to use MusicXML, have everybody download the latest Dolet plugin. This updates Finale 2009–2014.5 to MusicXML 3.1 and makes everybody's lives easier.

https://www.musicxml.com/dolet-plugin/dolet-plugin-for-finale/

Finale 25.4 and later already have this functionality.
