Hello all

Simple 4 bar Finale file to be sent as a demo to a client.  Four bars in a row on one line. Need to move the last two bars down to a second staff.  After upgrade to 26.2.2, can no longer do that.  Select measure, click down arrow, nothing happens.  Tried Fit measures in Utilities to lock each staff to 2 bars.  Same thing, nothing happens.

Keyboard apparently not at fault.  In a multi-line text document, the down arrow moves down the page just fine.

Sent the file to someone with Finale 26.1 and both functions work.

A corrupted copy of the software?  Or is this a new wrinkle in 26.2?  Pretty frustrating...

Thanks for any assistance.

Truman Harris,

Is the problem isolated to this particular Finale document?

Or does the problem happen in all Finale documents?

- In Other Words: document specific or program specific?

Peter, thanks for your reply

Two Other Finale files I tried produce the same result -- unable to move a bar up to the staff above or down to the staff below.

Can I re-download the update from Finale and reinstall it without having to pay the big fee?  I really need to get working on this project...

There should be no problem re-downloading Finale. If you are nervous, then Deauthorize your copy before you do, but that actually should not be necessary if you forget.

Downloaded Finale 26.2.2.493; installation says successful

However, problem not solved.  Opened new blank piano file with all empty bars, cannot move measures there either.

Can I go back to the previous version of Finale?

Is there paid Finale support I can access?

Thanks for assistance...

There is no phone support but you should use the Submit a request link at the top of the page to get MM Support directly involved. Please tell us what happens (none of us here are MM employees)

Truman Harris,

Since the problem seems to be program specific (and not document specific), I suggest that you try the following two steps:

1) Go to

Preferences - Edit

In the pane Automatic Settings, in the pop up menu Reflow Measures, what menu item is selected?

2) You could try a complete Reset of the program’s Preferences.

One way to do so:

Go to the Preferences, and click the button {Reset All Preferences}.

Another way:

Quit Finale, remove Finale’s Preferences file (= com.makemusic.finale.fprf), and launch Finale again.

Finale will build a new, fresh Preferences file - since it can not find its (previous) Preferences file.

As Mstislav Rostropovich used to say, "you genius make!"  Problem solved!  Re-flow measures with locks now selected and all is well.  <whew>

Thanks for your expert assistance!
