Problem with dynamics in newly created staff

With a usual, two-staff piano piece, I am trying to create a separate file for MIDI playback only. I have added a third staff so that I can provide very different dynamics for each hand of the piano part. The music in the newly created staff, done simply by double clicking on the staff tool, is not responding to dynamic marks, however. Do I need to adjust something that I don't know about??

Make sure that all three staves are playing through different channels. Also, check the staff list for dynamics, and make sure that all staves are selected.

Even though I have used Finale forever, I'm not sure where to find either the different channels or where the staff list is that I would find the options for dynamics.

I appreciate the help!

1) To find the channels:

Window menu > ScoreManager

Click the chiclet Instrument List.

You can Customize the View of the Instrument List (look in the right side of the Instrument List).

By default the column for Ch (= Channel) is showing.

If the column Ch does not show, Customize the View so that Ch shows.

2) To find the Staff List for a dynamic:

Expression Tool.

Context-click the handle on the dynamic.

In the context menu, choose {Assign to Staves…}.

You can create as many different Staff Assignment Lists as you need, and you can use any Staff Assignment List for any instance of a dynamic.

However:

I am not sure what you mean by your words “not responding to dynamic marks”.

Are you saying that you can not make dynamics display on the third staff (= Layout issue)?

Or are you saying that you can not make dynamics play back on the third staff (= Playback issue)?

Hi guys

I'm having trouble with this same issue. Maybe I'm not understanding quite what to do.

I have a string quartet where all the dynamics are playing fine. In a copy of the score for playback purposes only, I added a staff for percussion to get a few effects that I can't get with usual string designations. I can get the extra sounds ok, but the playback doesn't respond to the dynamics I assign to them.

Suggestions?

One suggestion:

Especially for questions about Playback issues it is important that you add info about your operating system and Finale version (perhaps Mac OS 10.14.1 - and Finale 25.4.1.163 ?).
