It is not clear to me what you are talking about, when you use the word “fingering”.

- finger numbers - or fret numbers?

- Standard notation staff, TAB staff, or chord symbol (fretboard diagram)?

Please specify,

- what Finale tool you are using,

- what dialog box(es) you are using.

I am using the chord tool. I have "show fretboards" selected under the chord tab. I double-click on the measure to add a fretboard above the music and get the "chord definition" window. This window defaults to a C chord and you have to type the chord you want into that box. If I type in Bm, for instance, and then use the "select" tab to choose which Bm chord I want, it takes me to a page of C chords. 

I never do it in your way, but try this:

1) In the field Chord Symbol, type Bm. Then, hit Return, to exit the Chord Definition.

Now the Bm displays in the score.

2) Select the handle on the Bm chord if it is not already selected. Then, hit Return to open the Chord Definition (again).

Now the Chord Definition has “taken” the Bm chord, and you can click the button “Select…”, to choose a fretboard diagram for the Bm.

Thanks. I guess this is a work-around, but this is so much easier in windows. I'm disappointed that the Mac version is so clunky for this feature. I use it all the time. 

But I don't mean to sound ungrateful. I do appreciate your suggestion, and until there's a better way, that's what I'll do. 

How did you solve that problem?
