So now, once you've created something in Finale 27 using Finale Broadway, you can't open it in V26 because you can't change fonts? Is this really the case or am I missing something? So far, 27 on Big Sur has been a complete disaster for me. I've wasted an entire day trying to get it to do the simplest of tasks and I've not written a single bar of the client's chart. After spending $200 (AUD) on this upgrade, I feel totally unsatisfied and annoyed at this version of Finale.
Exchanging a file created in 27 (SMuFL) with 26 (non SMuFL) is apparently a problem.
Take a look at Jason Loffredo's video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_BJq8TYiac (around 7'00")
Of course, if you use a non SMuFL font in 27, it will be transferred correctly.
There is plenty of room for improvement in future updates of Finale.
After 14:00, the video explains that exporting the 27 (SMuFL) file to MusicXML (version 3, not 4 !) produces much better results when imported in 26.
Andrew, you're not alone. As Michel and Jason point out, there are workarounds, but they really should not be necessary. This update appears to have been rushed to market before it was ready.
I bought the upgrade (after all, how can they get the money to make corrections without the income) but I'm still happily using 26.
27 is behaving for me but over Catalina. As I explained to Apple Support*, until a few more of my bread and butter plugins are Big Sur ready, ain't going there. The senior support staff I'm working with know that Mojave and Catalina are still supported MacOS through November and are not feeding me this nonsense.
*There is a spinning cursor (beach ball) issue for many of us who have the Dropbox app and current Corel products installed that may or may not include Toast 19 (I think I've eliminated Toast as a suspect unless the included "Pro Apps" are installed—those are definitely part of the problem. Will know this afternoon).
Although Apple has helped me identify the culprits, each company has been blaming the other and made no effort to resolve the issue. So, for now, DB is removed from my other Macs and Corel is removed from this one.
Mike,
Is DropBox a problem with F27, or with Big Sur, or with the combination? I'm using DB with no problems, but I'm still using F26.
Although Apple has helped me identify the culprits, each company has been blaming the other and made no effort to resolve the issue. Now there's a surprise...
My example was only to show that these issues can be a lot more involved than the usual finger pointing when a problem arises. So many apps want to take over part of your system and they don't always play nicely with each other.
I found that DB does slow things down for many users (including Finale for me). If you have Dropbox on the Mac and you are not sync'ing all your files, going into System Preferences/Extensions and System Preferences/Security & Privacy/Accessibility and unchecking Dropbox both places might improve overall performance as it did for me. The DB App and notifications still work fine.
Also that, if you are one of the many Mac users who has the random beach ball issue and you have Dropbox installed, I may have a solution or workaround. Dropbox Support has their collective heads in the sand and they're not very good — which isn't the same thing. I wish I could bill them and Corel for the time I have into this. At least I can confirm that Toast, though owned by Corel, is not a culprit unless the "Pro Package" that the installer prompts is allowed to continue. Again, I have a workaround and know what Corel needs to do to fix this on their end—if they will.
