Mac, Catalina, FInale 26.

After a series of system crashes so persistent the only thing to do was wipe my internal drive and reinstall a clean copy of my Mac's system software. The computer has been behaving perfectly since then, but Apple recommended that I not simply restore from a Time Machine backup, as it was possible I'd bring back whatever caused the crash. Instead, I've been bringing things over from my backup drive as I need them (starting with Documents, obviously), and installing fresh copies of my applications.

Trouble is, I can't find my custom Finale templates in my backups. I can find the pre-installed ones, and since I stored my custom templates in the Templates folder, I would have expected them to be with the rest--but they don't seem to be.

Any idea how I can find them?

Thanks, and Happy New Year!

Welcome to the forum!

You may have looked in the wrong folder.

There are two similarly named Finale folder hierarchies.

1) One resides in the Library folder at the root level.

This folder hierarchy serves as Finale’s own “backup copy” of the pre-installed items, including a Templates folder with the pre-installed templates.

2) The other folder hierarchy resides in the (often hidden) Library folder in your user account.

This folder hierarchy contains the Templates folder you are using.

Possibly you have been looking at the backup of 1) - rather than the backup of 2) ?

If you enabled Indexing (default) on your Time Machine backup, you can search just like any other drive. It will take a long time but they're in there. As to Peter's post, if they're in a hidden directory, you'll need to know this when you search.

Some users disable Indexing as it takes some time when the first backup is run. Your templates are still in there but you must know exactly where as non-indexed backups can't be searched.
