My first guess would be that the staff - via the Staff Tool - is set to, not display Lyrics.

I would do it with a Text Repeat that executes a jump from m. 4 to m. 9 on the Passes 1, 2 and 4. You can hide the Text Repeat so that it is not shown in the layout.

I have not experienced that glitch myself. But I have not yet upgraded to Catalina. You should definitely report it to MakeMusic - and include your operating system.
