From your description it sounds like you are using the computer keyboard, and not a MIDI keyboard. Take a look in the Speedy menu. Is the option Use MIDI Device for Input selected or de-selected?

Finale can - via the Graphics Tool - export as EPS, but also as PDF. Both graphic formats are vector graphics. Instead of exporting as an EPS file, try exporting as a PDF file. - It works for me.
