All fixed. She was trying to do it via the SmartShape options, rather than the Custom Line options. Everybody happy!
In playback controls, is it set to play to the end of the song? Does it play through in the finale file? Are you allowing the export enough time to finish?
Open the musx file. File > Export > Audio File…
Have you restarted the computer? Often, when things stop working for no apparent reason, a restart can help.
