You have apparently assigned all instruments to the same channel.

...and this can be fixed in the ScoreManager.

So you're actually fading the midi channel and not the instrument? I will reassign the channels. Twas an import from Logic.

MIDI or MusicXML? Logic imports/exports either.

Music XML. Logic doesnt care what midi channel you use since faders are assigned to tracks. So everything got ported over as mc 1. Oddly, it lost all the lyrics on the import too. I've done XML imports to Finale before c good success but not this one. Also did not bring in the tempo changes.

So, in Logic, if I assign tracks to different midi channels before music xml export, will this solve the problem, in other words is logic exporting the channel the notes were entered in or the channel the notes were assigned to?

Just jumping in with a question: If you have your instruments on different channels (as they should be) is it possible to group faders so you CAN drag them as a group? Think of a sound guy using eight fingers to pull down eight faders simultaneously.

In Finale, if one uses different midi channels, it doesn't seem to be possible at the moment, AFAIK. I have asked for this feature without success (so far). It would be useful to make a mix "on the fly" while recording audio playback of multiple instruments, but controllable as sub-groups.

Not "live" with the mixer. What you CAN do, if you are using VST instruments, is to create separate banks for different groups of instruments (on separate channels with their appropriately related levels set in the score manager). That way you can adjust levels for a whole group. If you want real grouping and automation that remembers level adjustments in real time, you will need a DAW to make your perfect playback (outside of Finale, best from your finished score). There are several free ones available. Other than those, a very good, inexpensive one would be Cubase Elements.
