Resolved: As of Finale v25.4
It has become apparent that there is a limit on the amount of space taken up by plug-ins (of the editing variety, not audio) that Finale is using.
By reaching this limit (still undetermined) Finale will exhibit some odd behavior like Finale crashing when using File > Open, or the ARIA Player plug-in window appearing blank.
To workaround this issue, you can reduce the amount of space taken up by plug-ins by moving any unused plug-ins out of Finale's architecture. Here's how...
Removing unused plug-ins to save space
- Close Finale.
- Right-click on your desktop and choose New > Folder.
- Name the folder something like "Unused Finale plug-ins".
- Hold down the WINDOWS key on your computer keyboard and press the letter R at the same time to open the Run dialog box.
- Type in the following filepath and press ENTER:
C:\Program Files\Finale\Plug-ins
- Look through the plug-in items in this folder. Find either some individual plug-ins or whole plug-in folders that you aren't using and move them to the "Unused Finale plug-ins" folder on your desktop (for safe-keeping, you can move these plug-ins back in if you need them later).
- Launch Finale.
If Finale is still exhibiting the same behavior, close Finale and try removing some more unused plug-ins.
