Resolved: As of Finale v25.4

It has become apparent that there is a limit on the amount of space taken up by plug-ins (of the editing variety, not audio) that Finale is using.

By reaching this limit (still undetermined) Finale will exhibit some odd behavior like Finale crashing when using File Open, or the ARIA Player plug-in window appearing blank.

To workaround this issue, you can reduce the amount of space taken up by plug-ins by moving any unused plug-ins out of Finale's architecture. Here's how...

Removing unused plug-ins to save space

  1. Close Finale.
  2. Right-click on your desktop and choose New > Folder.
  3. Name the folder something like "Unused Finale plug-ins".
  4. Hold down the WINDOWS key on your computer keyboard and press the letter R at the same time to open the Run dialog box.
  5. Type in the following filepath and press ENTER:

C:\Program Files\Finale\Plug-ins

  1. Look through the plug-in items in this folder. Find either some individual plug-ins or whole plug-in folders that you aren't using and move them to the "Unused Finale plug-ins" folder on your desktop (for safe-keeping, you can move these plug-ins back in if you need them later).
  2. Launch Finale.

If Finale is still exhibiting the same behavior, close Finale and try removing some more unused plug-ins.
