I have a Mac and I cannot dock the main palette or transport palette. I would like to know how to place them in a row at the top or on the side. I can resize them but not dock them.

Also my tile window and cascade window options do not function.

Sorry, palette docking is “a Windows thingy”.

I am not sure what you mean by your words “transport palette”, but I suppose that it is a palette with sub-tools (perhaps the Special Tools?).

However, you can tell Mac Finale to remember the palette positions:

Position your palettes as you like, and go to

File menu > Save Preferences

It might be a good idea that you Save Preferences, while a document window is open, and you are in the tool, where you can see the palette.

I think you should consider the possibility of docking the tools in mac TOO !!

On a big screen it's always all over the place and never where I want them to be.

How hard can that be...

Put the palettes where you want them, and click File > Save Preferences. That's where they will be, the next time you open a document.

How hard can that be...

No that's not true !

There are NEVER where I want them to be with multiple screens and windows.

Come on, even Libre Office has palettes that can stick to the window side.

What's your problem with that ?

I need the palette to stay with whatever finale document window is active

Has it occurred to you that the problem may be the the way the Mac OS handles this that has prevented MM from doing what you want? Considering the logic of your request, I would imagine MM would have implemented docking long ago unless the OS routines prevented it.

I can't believe you are actually saying this...

Are you even aware of what is modern software development ?

If you are not, you should definitely avoid these kind of comments and let actual Finale developers respond.

I know enough of C++ dev to tell you you don't know what you are talking about. Do you know in what cross platform framework Finale is written in ?

Again, even Libre Office  has floating palettes that stick to the active window side.

Can an actual MM employee respond to this in an argumented fashion please ?

This is a user forum, although MM employees do participate.

I suggest you use the Submit a Request link at the top of the page.

It never occurred to me to compare Finale to LibreOffice.

pff..

I'm comparing system window handling in mac OS apps to make my point about having sticky palettes to the active window...

What's wrong with all you people here ?

If you don't want sticky palettes, just stay silent and let others wish for things they need.

Not a problem. Put your feature request in the feature request section where it belongs, and we can give it all the attention it deserves.

Nice job. Smacked down three of us, in just two hours. I can’t wait for him to have a real problem!

Yan,

The palette placement in Finale is a program-wide setting. I would expect these to remain in the same location regardless of the document that you have open or in focus. The palettes should be in the same location that they were when closing and relaunching the program as well. If you are seeing differently on your end and these are not remaining where you have placed them, please feel free to get in touch with us directly and we can take a closer look into this with you. Having multiple monitors can present some complications with the palettes, depending on the video configuration, so this may factor into what you are experiencing.

As Mike mentioned, this is a user forum intended for the user community to collaborate and work with each other. We do monitor and participate in the forum but, if you want to get in touch with us directly, the best route is to submit a request with us and open a case.
