I could swear I was able to do this yesterday, but it was an accident and I can't get it to repeat.  I have a note in the treble clef that I want to move to the bass clef.  I thought I just clicked on the note, then hit Control and it moved, but I can't get it to do it again.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

You are using Windows Finale, right?

Is your Finale document a 1-staff document, like e. g. a lead sheet?

What instrument - perhaps a cello?

Are you talking about making a clef change in the staff?

Or is your document a Grand Staff document, with an upper staff in treble clef, and a lower staff in bass clef?

Are you talking about making Cross Staff Notation?

Look for Cross-Staff Notes in the Help files.

Thanks, but I can't seem to find that.  I'm still using 2009, but I can't find it in the 2014 manual either.

Do you have the full Finale, or one of the reduced products?

Inquiring minds need to know.

Sorry guys...I thought I put the info in the post...must have been the other post.  :( I'm still on Finale Print Music 2009 so looks like I'm missing lots of the cool new bells and whistles.  I made need an upgrade for Christmas. :)

Peter...it's two staves, but when I dragged in a simple piece from Sonar it put all the notes in the treble clef.  I was finally able to get a grand staff added and now I'm looking for an easy way to put the notes below middle C into the bass clef...this is for beginning piano students.  Like I said, it magically worked once and now I can't get it to do it again.

Thanks.  That's still a bit steep for as little as I use it.  (Although I'm enjoying doing fun songs for beginning piano students---shoulda done this years ago!)  :)  Anyway, thanks again.  I may check into it.

If Janet is using PrintMusic, why does her signature say otherwise? Is teh Forum Software scrambling these again? I notice mine has disappeared.

Because it's mine.

Methinks someone has some maintenance to do on this site.

Methinks someone needs to dump this forum software, and get something that WORKS.

It's two.  I checked. :)

Wow--that's something about Sonar!  That will upset a lot of people, I'm sure.  I haven't updated for several years...when they went to X1 all the keyboard shortcuts changed and that was way too annoying to change (plus I quit recording about that time.)  Anyway, hopefully someone will take up the baton.  It's great software!

How are your MIDI import preferences set up?

This. ↑

Janet, if you would like a signature so everyone always knows what version/product you are using, edit your profile's description (not intuitive, I know, but it works).

I also wonder if there is a different way you can bring your music from Sonar to Finale. For example, is there a way for you to export your Sonar project as a MIDI file rather than do the drag-and-drop thing?

Mike...MIDI import preferences?  I couldn't find that info.  Sorry. And sorry for taking so long to answer...life just continues to happen. :)

Alex, I'll try to work on my signature.  Thanks.  I'll also try exporting as a MIDI file.  Thanks!

Now that I've actually spent some time learning some of the keyboard shortcuts, it's much easier than before to just enter the notes--especially since I'm just writing out beginner songs right now.

Well, I can't figure out how to do anything in my signature.  Sorry guys!

  • Scroll to the top of this page.
  • Click your name in the top right.
  • Click "My profile" in the dropdown menu that shows up.
  • Click the green "Edit profile" button.
  • Type something in the "Description."
  • Hit "Close" (it will save automatically).

If you are able to export your Sonar tracks to MIDI, then drag and drop that MIDI file into Finale, or open it with Finale. You should then be greeted by this dialogue box:

Ah ha! Thanks.  I didn't now what 'description' meant.  :)  I'll try that MIDI thing out soon. Thanks again.

You got it! Like I said, it's not very intuitive. Then again, not many things on this forum are... :-P
