When I choose the Repeat tool and click a measure, I expect the Repeat Selection dialog box to open, but instead the Text Repeat Assignment dialog box opens and if I click OK, I get a Coda sign placed in my score.  This happens after relaunch of Finale and even with the Default Document.

Also, if I choose the Expression Tool and click in the score, I immediately get a "cresc." Expression.

It's as if suddenly Finale is stuck on some default action for a click and the Tools are reacting to it.

I've used Finale since 1992 and have never seen anything like this.

Any ideas?

Mac.  Will resetting the preferences destroy all the Human Playback changes I've made? It's a lot.  I rarely need to reboot my Mac.  I'd rather determine what caused the problem so I can fix if it happens again.

My first guess would be that the letter C key is stuck - since the metatools for “Coda sign” and for “cresc.” are programmed to have the letter C key as “trigger key”.

The letter C key could be electronically stuck or physically stuck.

If it is electronically stuck, then it can (probably) be fixed via a re-boot.

If it is physically stuck, then it can (probably) be fixed by tapping it a few times.

I actually expected you to reply with that. Reboot. See if you still have a problem. If so, tap on the keys as Peter suggests then clear the Preferences in that order.

If rebooting clears it as I expect, I will explain what happened. Often, the easiest way to diagnose a problem is to fix it first.

The infamous Virtual Stuck Key returns. We haven’t seen it for a while.
