Windows 10, Finale 2012c, rev. 13

I apparently need to upgrade to a newer version of Finale, as I and the professionals at MakeMusic cannot get the percussion sounds in Garritan Instruments for Finale to work properly. My lovely wife does not want to upgrade, as she is used to Finale 2012c (including its recalcitrant percussion) and upgrading such complex software is painful for her.

Is it possible to license both Finale 2012 and Finale 25 under the same serial number? This would give me a good while to figure out the functional differences between the versions so I tutor her in use of the newer one, and to motivate her by extolling the virtues of the newer version (assuming it has any).

Thank you.

Yes. When you upgrade, you can keep you older versions. They do not count towards the number of authorizations.

My layman's understanding is that you can install the current version of Finale and continue to use earlier versions that you have purchased. I am guessing they would be under the same serial number; certainly my account number has stayed the same for over a decade.

Of course your installation of Finale v25 will require a 64-bit CPU computer.

Yes — as long as the older versions of Finale will run on that computer. The MakeMusic license server doesn’t have a conflict.

Many times, an older version will run if previously installed and the OS is updated even if that older version will not install over the current OS. Other times, upgrading an OS will cause an older version to no longer work.

It’s the same as being able to run the Mac version on a Mac and the other version on Windows computers.

That makes sense. I just want to be certain that I will not make things any more difficult for her than is my usual custom.

Both of us have 64-bit CPUs. She has had the same serial number since 1993. I jumped on the Finale bandwagon in 1995 or so.

Thank you.

I am informed via e-mail that there are replies from Mike Halloran and Mike Rosen that for whatever reason I cannot see here. Thanks all for replying.

Get used to it. The CRM system MM uses has forum software (this one) that stinks.
