2017 iMac.  High Sierra 10.13.6

Since installing Finale v26 I'm having to enter all articulation manually for each not rather than using meta tools.   With older versions this works automatically.

I am not experiencing this. So at least in Windows it still works as it should.

No problems here, on a Mac.

Is this happening in all documents?

Richard, we would expect that the metatools will work as they have in the past. If you are experiencing otherwise, definitely get in touch with by submitting a case. We will want to troubleshoot that with you to find out what the issue is.

I have the same problem.  When I loaded Finale 26.3.1.643 unto my new MacOS Version 11.1, the metatools function isn't working for expressions and or dynamics. Can this be fixed?

Metatools are document specific, not program specific.

1) Are the metatools missing in all documents? - and what about new documents?

2) What happens if you yourself program a metatool (e. g. for an expression)? Does the metatool work?

Hi Peter.  Thanks for getting back to me.

I've included here a screen shot of the Expression window.  As you can see, the first 22 have a numbered or lettered key attributed to them, but none of them seem to work as a metatools function.  I didn't know I could program certain keys to certain expressions. Does it say in the finale manual how to do that. (Dumb question, I know.)

Yes, look under Metatools in the Help files. There are instructions.

… the first 22 have a numbered or lettered key attributed to them …

My guess is that the following expressions (from 23 and onwards) have been added to the document later, possibly by loading a library.

The general method for programming a metatool:

1) You must be in the relevant tool (to program an expression metatool you must be in the Expression Tool).

2) Hold down Shift, and hit the key you need to program as a metatool trigger key (e. g. the letter C key).

Finale will display the Expression Selection where you can link the trigger key to an expression (e. g. the cresc. expression).

3) From now on, you can add the cresc. expression by holding down the letter C key, and clicking or dragging on the page.

Well, the good news is that I'm able to program a key with any expression or articulation.  The bad news is that I can't get it to work.  In other words, after programing the key "c" with "cresc." it still doesn't work when I click/c on a note and cresc doesn't appear (or any other expression or articulation).  It seems as if the metatool function is turned off and I don't know how to turn it on.

Charles,

It should work. Just to be sure you're doing this correctly, to apply a metatool expression hold down the "c" for instance, and while you're holding that down, click on a note, then release the held key.

When I press a key and click with the Expressions tool, the lyrics arrows pop up.  When I click twice, the Expressions tool window pops up.  Anyway, it's not the worst thing in the world.  It's just odd and a nuisance.  Anyway, thank for trying to help.

All of a sudden, today, I decided to return to the old efficiency of my Finale 2012, and earlier phases too:  metatools, particularly for Articulations.  But after reading various suggestions here, nothing works for me [either].  Whether touchpad setting adjustments [HP laptop] or anything else.  I identify with this other Richard now, in that something in this v.26 incarnation is working against metatool performance.  Please advise!

@Mike Halloran...  in short, I am experiencing the same problem as Richard McKee described [see above].  I currently run Finale version 26.3.1.520, which apparently doesn't accept the programming of keyboard shortcuts for Articulations.  [I tried to experiment with Expressions; no luck there either.]  These shortcuts were something I used to enjoy on the earlier versions of Finale I used years ago.  Thanks.

So far, all we know is Windows. You haven’t told us anything else. We do not read minds.
