I'm on Windows 10 now.  I have no idea what my original software version was.  It was 1994 or earlier.  I haven't used it since starting to write a piece in memory of an old friend who died.  I no longer have my original Finale disk or registration number.  I've recently come across an old backup hard drive that appears to have some Finale material on it.

I only used Finale for a couple of months.  I had just started studying composition with someone.  They were so critical that I withdrew back into my shell which I'd been in since childhood.  Now I'm 72 and would dearly like to see and hear the one or two pages of music that I wrote the night that my friend died.

Is there anyone who can help me?

All the best,

Thom Griffin

Thom,

Are you asking for someone to coach you in Finale, or someone to complete your work?

Drop me an email. My address is encoded in my signature, below.

(And you're not so ancient. Many of us have you beat!)

Mike,

I no longer have Finale, or any other music software, so I don't want coaching.  Nor do I want someone to complete my work.  I'd just like someone to print out what ever is on the files.  There's likely no more than 10 pages of very embarrassingly elementary composition.  I don't even know from the file labels whether or not the piece in memory of my friend is amongst the files.

I don't want to go to the expense of purchasing any sort of program just to figure out what these files are.

Thanks so much for your time.

Thom

Thom, can you send the files to me? I'm happy to see if I can open them, and if so, I'll be happy to print them for you, or, as Michel suggests, I can put them in PDF format for you to print.

If it’s that old, NotePad should be able to open and print per MichaelH’s suggestion — if you can get NotePad to open in Windows 10 which may be possible. NotePad has not worked on the Mac for many versions of the OS now. You cannot edit in NotePad if the display is over 8 staves but you should still be able to display and print.

For viewing in the 27 demo, you will probably/certainly have to change the display fonts to view your old work. Except for the Garritan Instruments for Finale (included in the paid version only), the demo is fully functional for 30 days.

I would certainly take advantage of MikeR’s suggestion to have him look at one of your files.

If you had an old copy of Finale, you should have registered with an email address. If so, MakeMusic Support can look it up and restore your old account. Should you wish to upgrade to 27, the price is the same no matter how old your version is.

I want to thank all of you for your kind responses.  I'll likely put this aside until a rainy day.  The weather has been perfect for getting outside things done.  But I did want to thank all of you.

All the best,

I, too, will be happy to finish or print or make a sound mockup for you. I have done it many times for music students here.
