Mac OS 12.4, Finale 27.2.0.142

Although Finale has functioned normally with the scrolling line aligned with the notes being played, now all Finale files have the cursor ahead of the note playing. When playing back the first 4 measures the cursor is already in measure 6. If I click on the stop play it often does not stop until I close the file.

If I switch from through audio units to play through MIDI the two are aligned but the playback speed is faster. I do not use a MIDI and playback is through external speakers.

Is this in all documents, new and old? If so, I would try refreshing the preferences.

Problem happens with all files -  new and old

by refresh you mean to reset preference?

If it is reset, I need to screen dump all the preference windows before proceeding.

Yes. If you've made changes to the Program preferences, they will be lost. So, screen shots, lists, whatever way works. You could also manually drag the prefs file to the desktop. Restarting finale will create a new file. If that didn't fix your problem, you can reinstall your old preferences.

Even though I know how to get into all libraries, I can not find a Preference file for Finale to put on desktop before resetting preferences. Once I con find the file, I will move it to desktop before resetting.

I Have looked in:

MacHD/Library/Preferences

MacHD/Library/Finale

MacHD/Library/Application support/Make Music

MacHD/Users/user/Application support/Make Music/Finale 27

Library/Application support/Make Music/Finale 27

Look in Preferences > Folders. That will show you the path to the correct folder.

Additional issues are showing up.

Turned off scrolling. Restarted Mac multiple times. Pressing space bar to start playback doesn't work most of the time.

Sound will suddenly stop during playback, maybe stop sound, and sometimes play another section, then when "finished" playing a single, constant tone. Clicking on the stop icon does not work with the only option is to close the file. Another issue is trying to click in lyrics. May take multiple clicks on the note to get the insertion cursor.

I think there is more at fault than the preferences. Previously I have had to install a new copy when Finale was going "bonkers".

What should have been a 30 min project took 90 minutes because of needing to close file and/or quit Finale!!

Appears to be time to call MakeMusic tomorrow.

You are doing something wrong but we don't have enough information to know what. This comes up now and then but there are too many possible solutions to say, "Oh, you need to…"

The only thing I can offer is to remove Finale from your System and reinstall. It's quite possible that Support will suggest this first.

Hello Derryl, did you find a solution for this?
I'm having the rogue playhead moving faster than playback! v 27.3.0.137

Ok, this worked for me (v 27.3.0.137):
from
https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/217722718-Issues-with-Scrolling-Playback-Playback-Cursor-in-Finale-2012
"Close Finale.

  1. Hold down your Windows key and press the letter E to open Explorer.
  2. From the menu on the left, choose Computer (or This PC for Windows 8.1 and 10).
  3. Navigate to C:\Users\[your user account]\AppData*\Roaming\MakeMusic\Finale [your current version number]. (* = AppData is a hidden folder. To show hidden files and folders, click on the "View" tab in Explorer, then check the box labeled "Hidden Items")
  4. In your Finale 2012 folder, you will be deleting two files that will be labeled "Configuration Settings" as their file type. Find and delete these two files in this folder:

    • Finale.ini
    • Finmidi.ini
  5. Empty your trash.
  6. Restart your computer.
  7. Relaunch Finale."

Then, playback cursor was stuck and lagging, and this solved the issue:
https://makemusic.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360058540854-Playback-Cursor-Lags-or-Appears-Stuck-When-Starting-Playback-With-Spacebar-Click
"When initiating playback by using the SPACEBAR+mouse click method, the playback cursor will not move immediately when playback starts. The cursor will appear to lag behind the audio or appear to not move at all.

To remedy the issue, initiate playback once by using play on the Playback Controls panel. After this, using the SPACEBAR+click method will have the audio and the playback cursor aligned properly. When switching to another document and back, start playback again from the Playback Controls to fix the issue again."
