Robert, Have you restarted the computer since this problem appeared? You might also try recreating the Preference file.
I import the XML in whatever format it comes, and then paste it into my preferred template, be it Barbershop, choral, or whatever.
As I understand it, you can create your own “style” to be applied to new documents. But if you pretty much stay with the same ensembles, then I agree; a few templates should be all you need.

Where were you saving them? F27 would not have deleted or overwritten them.

Jeffrey's method works fine, in Speedy. Mine is for Simple.
