Again, I'd recommend PopChar for Windows. And complain about the cursor defaulting back to the beginning. I did, years ago. And still waiting for a fix.
Can you use Staff Sets to implode then staves you want? And, to merge staves, look at JW Staff Polyphony. It’s pretty handy.
