Don't use Chrome. It doesn't like the upgrade process. For normal downloads, its's fine, however. Otherwise, it appears that you have a firewall or antivirus software issue.

There's your problem. Set your tool palettes to the default size. Finale 25 does not have this issue.
2014.5 has a known issue if you resize your tool palettes. What is your OS?
2014.5 does not overwrite 2014. When you look in your Applications folder, you'll see both. Check to make sure that you are launching the version you want.
