I am curious if anybody here has a good solution for importing Finale exported music into InDesign. Usually I go with 600dpi tiff files but the music doesn't look as good (and bold) as it does when I print from Finale. I have been experimenting with png, jpg of various resolutions but no luck. PDF makes nice and compact files but in larger files it tends to sometimes just not print certain characters from the music font.

There may be a nice compromise between file size and quality I have yet to find.

Any ideas?

Thanks

PDF is the way to go these days. Have you tried creating a PDF from Finale's own PDF creator (Graphics Tool)? You don't say which OS platform you're using. If Mac, there is additionally the OSX PDF thru the Print dialog. If Windows, Windows 10 produces PDF natively and there are a number of free Windows PDF creators out there. The key to using these PDF creators is to make sure the option to embed fonts is activated. File size shouldn't matter unless it is obviously out of line.

You have a lot of options to experiment with.

According to an earlier post Peter Kienle is (or was) using Mac OS.

I recommend that Mac users try PDF export from Finale’s Graphics Tool.

The file size is small (because the fonts are only embedded once for the entire PDF file), and the PDF file is in true Black&White.

Sorry I didn't include: Mac, High Sierra, iMac 2011. Latest version Finale. And it really isn't a Finale problem as I notice the same thing from Sibelius and Dorico.

I have experimented with various PDF paths out of Finale. Thinking this over:

- I get nice "fat" prints when I print directly from Finale

- I get the same nice print when I print PDFs exported from Finale directly in Acrobat

- I get "thin" lines and what looks like more "grain" when I print PDFs exported from InDesign

=> export settings in InDesign might be the problem. Haven't had a chance yet to test print directly from InDesign
