Your description of the problem is very vague. Are you saying that all tool icons have disappeared from the Main Tool Palette - except the Selection Tool icon?
The “secret” is that you - in the dialog Composite Time Signature - can type multiple characters in the same field (Beat Duration): 1+2 (that is right: three characters in the same field)
