This article outlines the steps that you will need to take to effectively move Finale from one computer to another.

Deauthorize Finale On Your Old Computer



Accessible Computers:

If your old computer is still accessible, then deauthorize Finale from within the application using the steps below:

  1. On the computer that is currently authorized, open your software. Note: Windows users need to right-click the Desktop icon for the program and select Run as administrator.
  2. Click Help > Deauthorize Finale.

Inaccessible computers:

For computers that have crashed, have been replaced, or reformatted you will need to deauthorize your product within your MakeMusic account. You can do that by following the steps below:

  1. Login to your MakeMusic account page.
  2. Choose Manage Authorizations located to the right of your product's serial number.
    • *Note: If you need to delete an authorization for an older version, choose Previous Versions, then choose Manage Authorizations.
  3. Click Delete next to the authorization you wish to delete, select the reason, and click OK.

 

Download Finale On Your New Computer


Registered licenses of Finale 2012 and later are fully downloadable from your MakeMusic account pageNote: See Download Availability for Finale Software for more details. You can download Finale products from your MakeMusic account using the steps below:

  1. Navigate to https://mmaccount.makemusic.com.
  2. Click the Download button located to the right of your Finale license. A dialog box appears.
    • Note: To download earlier versions of Finale, click Previous Versions to reach the download link.
  3. Choose the Mac or Windows version. The download begins automatically once the next page loads.
  4. Monitor the progress of your download by checking the downloads section in your internet browser. If the download has not started, click on the Download button.
  5. Once the download is complete, you are ready to install Finale.

Install Finale On Your New Computer


Finale can be installed using the steps in the linked videos below. Note: The videos below use Finale v27 to demonstrate the installation process. While the exact windows and messages that appear may differ depending on your version of Finale, the overall process will be similar.

Authorizing Finale


Finally, you will need to authorize Finale on your new computer. You can do that by following the steps below:

  1. Launch Finale. A dialog box appears, prompting you to authorize Finale. Note: Windows users need to right-click the Desktop icon for the program and select Run as administrator.
  2. Click Authorize Now. The Finale Authorization Wizard appears.
  3. Type your serial number, a descriptive computer name of your choosing, and the email address associated with your MakeMusic account.
  4. Click Next. A message appears, reading "Thank you for authorizing your copy of Finale."
  5. Click Close. The Launch Window appears.
